When first unpacked, the GECO has a typical rubber smell that fades over time. Before first use, we recommend airing the mat out overnight in a well-ventilated, dry room.
Wash your hands with soap and water before using a GECO mat. It's important to remove natural oils or hand creams, as these affect slip resistance.
Latex rubber is sensitive to weather conditions. In particular, prolonged exposure to direct or indirect sunlight combined with high humidity quickly leads to oxidation of the material, which can lighten the colour and create fine white deposits on the surface – these can be removed using the cleaning method described below; for stubborn deposits, simply add a teaspoon of vinegar to the cleaning water.
Alternating which side you practise on extends the lifespan of your GECO mat.
Storage:
After practice, always roll your mat up with the top side and logo facing outward. Store the rolled-up mat in a yoga mat bag, protected from direct or indirect sunlight. Minimising sun exposure extends the lifespan of your GECO mat.
Cleaning:
For a quick clean after each session, simply wipe the surface of your mat down with a damp cloth. Then leave the mat lying flat to dry. Occasionally, for a deeper clean, use a mild organic cleaning product or plain soap (no solvents, no abrasive cleaners). Avoid the logo area when cleaning, to prevent damage. Then wipe the surface clean with a cloth and fresh water. Leave the mat lying flat until completely dry. Alternatively, you can carefully rinse the surface in the bath or shower, without soaking or submerging the mat.
